The City Council was required to adopt new Council districts based on the decennial federal census prior to April 17, 2022. Before adopting new Council districts, the City Council was required to hold at least four public hearings, one of which may be a public workshop.

District Elections Background
The City of Dana Point has adopted of a five-district, by district method of election system and sequence for City Council elections. The vote was held during the May 15, 2018 City Council meeting.
