Surf Contest on the Beach and a Luau in Picnic Areas A & B.

Doheny Longboard Surfing Association's annual Velzy Surf Contest and Luau is a highpoint for Doheny summer surfing, honoring surfing legend, Dale Velzy, "The Hawk."  The events start with a surf contest between DLSA and another longboard club on the California coast.  Once the contest is over, everyone retires to the picnic area for traditional luau food, Polynesian dancers and music, contest awards, and then rock the night away while dancing to a great band.  The event is held to honor California surfing legend and surfboard maker, Dale Velzy.
