The Ocean Institute will present four Family Science Nights on Thursdays in 2016: June 30, July 14 & 28 and August 11, 6 – 8 p.m. Spend a summer evening in our Samueli Conference Center getting “up close and personal” with local scientists. Each experience will include a presentation by a special guest speaker with alternate activities for kids.
Specific presentations include:
June 30 – The Science of Fireworks presented by the UCI Chemistry Outreach Club. How do fireworks work? Learn the science behind the spark of the fireworks.
July 14 – The World of Waves presented by Jennifer McWhorter of the Coastal Data Information Program. Receive an introduction to the science of surfing.
July 28 – Sharks! presented by Connor White of the CSULB Shark Lab. Find out about the latest research conducted by the CSULB Shark Lab and how recent water temperatures and weather pattern changes are having effects on our ocean life.
August 11 – Animal Adventures presented by Terri Hernandez of Adventures in Science. Enjoy a live animal presentation.
