Once on this Island is a heart warming musical for the entire family.

The captivating and romantic musical, Once on This Island, will be presented by the talented cast of SOCSA's Summer Musical Theater Camp on the Porthole Theater stage of Dana Hills High School this summer.

Based on the original Hans Christian Andersen tale of The Little Mermaid, with book and lyrics and music by Tony Award winning duo of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, the action unfolds through the eyes of several Storytellers who introduce, comment on, and propel the story forward.

At the center of the tale is Ti Moune, a poor peasant girl sent on a journey by the Gods to test the strength of love against the power of death. The age-old story of star-crossed lovers gets a shot of Calypso rhythm and Caribbean heat in this bittersweet musical romance, which features tunes guaranteed to leave the crowd snapping its fingers and tapping its toes to the island beat. Staged with minimal props, sets, and costumes, Once on This Island delivers melody, love and drama with a tropical flair. This musical entertainment, directed by SOCSA's own amazing Musical Theater Director, Brittany Longdon.
