The City of Dana Point has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County to serve as a food drive collection site on an ongoing basis effective today, March 27, 2009.
Employees, schools, students and the community alike are invited to fight hunger in Orange County by donating canned and dry food products, as well as personal care products, paper products and baby care items to support the City’s food and goods collection campaign.
At Second Harvest, through their 400 member charities, meals are provided to nearly 220,000 unduplicated individuals each and every month. The need for assistance through Second Harvest’s member charities has increased 40% from this same time last year.
In addition to accepting donated goods, Second Harvest Food Bank will also accept cash donations if you so choose. Every $1.00 donated to Second Harvest provides $12.00 worth of food to the needy. A display of how much of an impact your cash donation has on providing meals to the needy is shown below. If you would like to donate cash in any amount, Jennifer Anderson will happily collect it for you and forward your donation to Second Harvest. If you have questions please contact Jennifer Anderson at (949) 248-3593 or email her at janderson@danapoint.org.
Second Harvest Food Bank barrels have been placed at City Hall in the Administration and Community Development Suites and at the Community Center. Thank you.
